Hallo Germany,

Wie gehts??? This week has been a stressful week. Not only did my friend leave and go back home to sunny San Diego, CA, but I have been sick as well as my teammates and coach. This past week we barely had any practices and when we did have practices, no one showed. On top of all this me and my roommate toya and my friend jalina ( before she left) had a little trouble with the police. This is my first experience ever having to deal with the police and better yet the German police. I was not scared when we had to go to the police station however was a bit upset because I didnt understand their reasoning of us being there. Long story short, we went out after our home game last week with our teammates because it was my friend jalina's birthday. We were all dancing, laughing and having a good time until a random girl came and pushed my roommate toya for no reason at all. So to defend herself she pushed her back and jalina stepped in as well. This girl called the police on us and we ended up having to go home. The next morning the police comes by the hotel to ask us what had happened because the girl claims she was hurt after she had went back into the club and was dancing the whole night ( she appeared to be perfectly fine). So me being a witness to the situation, I had to give my statement on what happened and well as the other girls. So now i can tell my family and friends when I get back to the states that I saw the inside of a German police station:) With all this on our minds and everything that had happened, we ended up winning our game which was a great way to end the week! We beat #2 ranked Vernhiem this past Saturday the 25th which was huge for us! This is very important because we are fighting to stay in this competitive league ( Bundislega 2) and have to prove that we are just as good as any other team in this league. Next game is against #5 ranked Liemen at their place and look forward to a victory! Until next time,

Hallo St. Georg Guest!

Wie gehts???? The Fireballs are off to a great start! We beat a very important team on Sat Feb 4th against #3 ranked Heidelburg. We are moving our way up towards playoffs! However since we lost this past Saturday to #6 ranked Trier which puts us in a difficult situation. For this particular trip, we took a big bus with some of our biggest fans including my #1 fan Jalina Bradley who surprised me the day before ( Friday Feb 9th) coming all the way from sunny California! I had no idea she was coming and was very excited that one of my best friends has come to support me and our team. Even though we lost to trier, we are keeping our heads up and moving on to defeat Wuerzburg this on Sat Feb 18th! We hope to see you all there!

Its good to be back in such an interesting country! I had a great time at home in California with my family and friends for the holidays. Now its back to business. We had our first home game of the year this past Saturday, Jan 21, 2012 and beat the #5th seed in our league Sandhausen. The win felt great because not only does it help us in making playoffs but we have worked hard these past two weeks and owe it to ourselves to want to win. Next game is Jan 28th versus the #1 seed Bamburg at their place and we plan to prepare and work hard this week to defeat them. Thanks for all your support and hope to see you at our next home game on Feb 4th!

Today was our last and final game of the year! Unfortunately, we lost so we could not end the year on a win! However, Im very excited because in the morning, I will be traveling back home for the holidays. Cant wait to see my family and friends . I miss them so much and feel as if its been years since Ive seen them but in actuality its been only a couple of months. Although, I would love to see how Germans celebrate Christmas and New Years, there's nothing being with your loved ones on this special holiday. Until next year Germany.........

Gute Nacht Germany!! Good afternoon USA!! This week was one of the best weeks I've had thus far. I am pleased to announce that the Fireballs finally gave their fans their first home win of the season. For the last home game before we go into the Christmas break, it was awesome, the crowd was rocking, and our team found a way to come together and pull off the win. After the game I got to meet and take pictures with some of our great fans which was pretty cool. I really do appreciate each and every one of you all; I can't thank you enough for all of your support. Just hope that our fan base continues to grow as we head into 2012 for the second half of the season. I also want to congratulate the guys on getting another win in their win column on the season. It's always good to support and watch them and see them come out victorious. If I'm not mistaken I believe all of the Fireball teams went undefeated this weekend. Go Firaballs!!!
On another note,earlier this week my teammate Ciara and I got treated to a couple of great meals thanks to our friend Anna. She introduced me to a typical German dish called Spatzl and it was soooo good!!!! OMG!! Definitely a new favorite of mine. To go along with a tasty salad that she prepared the meal didn't stand a chance...lol. Then the following day she made us Sloppy Joes, a typical American dish. She has her own special recipe that my taste buds enjoyed. Thanks again Anna, I really did enjoy and appreciate you and your husband's hospitality.
To end the week on a good note, we had our Fireballs Christmas party. It was a pretty nice dinner event held at Nibas Cafe here in B.A. It was an opportunity to get together and mingle with teammates, friends, and other important people that help make our club successful. I enjoyed myself. I guess that's all for now...so until next time my friends...Tschüs!

Guten Abend Germany!! Good Morning USA! This week has been moving kind of slow for me. I guess it's probably from the anticipation of me going home soon to go along with the fact that our team didn't have a game this week. Booooo!!! But there were a few highlights from the week though...On Friday night we treated our good friend Simone and her family to a Taco night. We went to their house after practice on Friday and prepared the food. It was their first time ever having tacos and it was a definite success. They really enjoyed the food and I was happy that we were able to share something new and different with them. After tacos we had one of our German faves...Goassnmas and watched one of our favorite American movies, "Stomp the Yard."

On Sunday we went to one of Bavaria's oldest cities, Wasserburg. The architecture of the city "Old Wasserburg" is like nothing I've ever seen before and the water surrounding it was beautiful. Had my first Christmas market experience which was cool, it was small but a nice place to take your family or friends to get in the Christmas spirit and have a good time. We were in Wasserburg because our friends from the US had a game there. They play for Nördlingen in the 1st Bundesliga. It was a cup game against Wasserburg. The game went back and forth, very entertaining. Entertaining both on and off the court and when I say off the court, I'm referring to the fans. Fans over here are like nothing I've ever seen before and it's pretty cool to actually see them in action and not be playing in the game for once. They are so supportive of their teams and involved with the game. Our friends didn't win, but we were still able to laugh and catch up after the game. It's always good to see some familiar faces when you are away for a while. So even though the week went by kind of slow and I would've rather played a basketball game, it ended on a good note. Guten Morgen Germany!! Good Night USA!!! I have about two weeks left until I get to go back to the States and boy I can't wait!! I am anxious to see my family and friends as well as enjoy some of my favorite American foods. Don't get me wrong...I appreciate the German culture and the many different things you have to offer but for me personally "there's no place like home." A few weeks ago took us (my teammate and I) to this Italian restaurant called Niko's, which was amazing. A very nice spot, great friendly service, delicious food, and refreshing drinks all for a decent price. I do plan on returning a few more times through out the rest of my time here. Definitely gets two thumbs up from me!! Our team played against Munich this weekend which I have learned is a pretty heated rivalry. Very exciting game because of the different lead changes that took place during the game...it was close and it came down to the final seconds. Unfortunately once again our team came up short...ughhh so frustrating!! We lost the game by one point!!!

On another note, this week was pretty tough for me to get through because back home in the States was Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a holiday that you guys don't celebrate over here which is unfortunate because it's a great tradition. In the U.S. this holiday is a day to give thanks for any/everything and spend time with family and friends. We get together and have a huge feast, relax, and enjoy each others company. I'm pretty good about not getting/being homesick but on that day it was pretty tough. I was able to skype with my family but I definitely would have rather been there in person. I missed out on my Granny's amazing cooking. In an attempt to have a little Thanksgiving dinner both Anna and Simone cooked for us on separate occasions. Both were great and I am very grateful for them and their sweet gestures. I guess that's all for now...until next time my friends. Tschüs!!!

Guten Morgen!!!! Wie gehts???? These past two weeks have been the best two weeks ever. My friend Jalina Bradley came to visit me all the way from san diego, ca ( where me and toya are from). Her first night here was on Nov 11th which was on a Saturday. We went to our guys home basketball game right after she had arrived here in Bad Aibling. Our guys team won and was very exciting to watch, then took her right across the way to the "FEEL GOOD" restaurant. Our friends from this hotel, Anna-lena and Caroline took us the night before to this bar and showed us a wonderful time, I felt like this would be a good place to welcome my friend to my new home. We played pool, and darts and had some drinks and really had a good time with some of our biggest fans, Simone and Ali, and Anna-lena. They welcomed my friend with open arms and Jalina was really impressed with the beer. The beer here taste more natural and fresh then the beer in the states. The next day we had a basketball game so had to get home to rest up for the big day. We played against TSV Amicitia Viernheim who was ranked 2nd in our league. We played a good game however we lost by 9 points. Even though we lost, I was still happy because I had my friend there to support me no matter what and it kind of felt like home with her there. After the game we celebrated our teammate lena's birthday at the gym. We had cake and champagne and was a nice gathering with the team. Later in the week, I decided to take Jalina to Rosenheim for a little shopping. I wanted to take her to munich but we never had enough time to go due to practice and meetings with the team. We did some sight seeing there too and took her to one of my favorite restuarants "the bizz' which is right across from "Losteria". The owner "Serbio" was there and was so excited to see me for the second time since my birthday. He made us a special pasta dish to welcome Jalina to the city. Later on in the week, one of our fans wanted to take us to Chimsee lake. This place was so beautiful but very cold. We took a mini tour of the lake and rode the boat to the other side of the lake to see the big castle.
We learned that king louie XVI once lived in this beautiful bronze castle and only stayed their 10 days out of the year. We took lots of pictures to cherish this wonderful moment here in germany. Jalina and Toya and I were very excited that we got the opportunity to visit this lake. The next day was game day so again we had to get back to the hotel to rest up for the big day. On the day of the game, I fixed Jalina her favorite american dinner. Steak and potatoes with vegetables which is common in alot of the restaurants in the states. When arriving to our game, I was more excited than ever because for one, Jalina was there to support me and two, it was another home game and I love playing for our fans. Our fans are great and support us 1000% no matter the outcome. Also one of my friends from the states was playing on the opposing team (Ericka), so it was good to see her as well. Unfortunately we lost but we wont give up. It is very frustrating however because every game we get closer and closer to winning and it seems like all the hard work put in doesnt pay off. Later that night, we went to munich to celebrate our teammate lena's birthday again. I am not used to partying after losing a game but in Germany I guess its different here. This was an interesting experience because we had to take the train to munich which we took the last train out to munich for the day and couldnt return until the next train that was heading out which wasnt until 7am. We went to a club called "new room" and stayed their until the crack of dawn. We were so exhausted and tired that we decided to take a cab back to bad aibling instead of taking the train all the way back. We got home around 8am and took a 4 hour nap. Later that afternoon, it was bowling and burgers with anna-lena and marcus swiechger. We went to the bowling alley in meintrach which happened to have american food and the best burgers in town. In the states, bowling is very common and competitive so we were excited to play. The burgers were good and bowling was fun however I hate losing. We all lost to anna-lena's husband who is a PROFESSIONAL:). This was also a memorable experience and my friend Jalina had a great time as well as Toya and I. The next day was Monday and it was the last day that Jalina would be here in Germany. So this day was her day and whatever she wanted to do was okay with me. All she wanted was to have lunch and dinner with our new friends here and have ice cream that Ive been begging her to have because its so good here. She loved the ice cream because it was fresh and home-made which is something that is not common in the states. We ate dinner at "Nico's" with anna-lena which was a very nice place. After dinner, our biggest Fan Simone and her family wanted to hang out with us and my friend before she leaves. We shared laughs and jokes and was a great way to end the night. We got home around midnight so that Jalina could pack and get ready to leave in the morning. We took her back by train and the first thing she says upon taking her to the airport was " I plan on coming back for my birthday in February", "I really had a great time here and like it here very much". I was really sad to see her go but I will see her and my family soon when we go home for Christmas. Well that's all for now!!!! Until then......... Good Morning USA!! Guten Abend Germany!! We had a surprise birthday party for my teammate Lena at Fid's Bar. She was definitely surprised and happy to see her family and friends there to help celebrate her special day. It was a good time. Later in the week I got the opportunity to visit the Great Chiamsee Lake thanks to Hubert and his family. I am very thankful because coming from where I'm from I only read about places like this in my history books. The Herrenchiamsee which is a palace that was built by Ludwig II in 1878 was one of the most extravagant things I've ever seen before. It was definitely an experience to remember for the rest of my life.

We had another home game this weekend. The team fought hard but came up short again. Even though we couldn't get the win the fans were great yet again. I look forward to playing at home just because I believe we have some of the best fans around. I appreciate seeing the different St Georg staff members and new friends I've made since being here. I don't just play for my teammates and I but for the fans as well. After the game a bunch of my teammates as well as friends traveled to Munich for a night on the town to celebrate Lena's birthday again. We were there which seemed like forever and it was very interesting to say the least. Sunday after getting very little sleep we went bowling with Anna, her husband and friends of theirs. We finally got to try the burgers at the bowling alley which were delicious!! It was a nice way to wind down this long eventful weekend. I guess that's all for now...so until next time. Gute Nacht Germany! Good afternoon USA! Sorry it's been a while since you last heard from me. This week the men's Fireball team starting their three game winning streak they are currently on with a big win against one of the top teams in their league. It's always fun to be able to show them support and attend their games as they do the same for us. They pulled away from the opposing team towards the end of the third quarter with their quick hands on defense and efficient scoring on offense.

On another note thanks to Anna and Caroline it was brought to my attention that where I practice/play our games is home to a couple of the best burger joints in town. We play at the old military base which is no longer active but still is the residence for a couple of cool hang out spots. They kind of reminded me of home. They showed us the bowling alley and Feel Good Cafe. We initially went to the bowling alley but unfortunately the kitchen had closed by the time we got there so we ended up going to the Feel Good Cafe. We had burgers that my taste buds loved by the way, listened to some music, had some drinks, and played pool. It was a fun time. I also learned about this new log game, pretty funny especially after you've had a few drinks. Anna and Caroline thanks for the good time. It's Sunday night and my teammates and I are headed back to Bad Aibling from our away game. Quick recap of my week; earlier this week my teammates had a Halloween party which was lots of fun. It was good to get together with the men's basketball team as well as other friends to celebrate and have a good time.
But that was just the start to one of the best weeks I've had since I've been here. On Wednesday I got to go shopping on the military base in Gamisch. Thanks to Nadine, one of our team managers, I now have some of my favorite american food that I haven't been able to enjoy since I left the states a couple months ago. Even though we weren't in Gamisch to long it seemed like an awesome place to be. I definitely would love to go back and explore the town to see what it has to offer.
Now back to Sunday...guess what???? The Fireballs made history tonight. Tonight against TG Würzburg the Fireballs earned their first win in the Bundesliga Zwei. It wasn't our best game but we pulled together as a team, found a way to get it done, and get the victory. Hopefully this is just the first of many more to come for our team. Great way to finish off the week right?!?! On another note, I've noticed that it's starting to get colder and me being from California these net few months should be very interesting. I must say it is nice to finally experience a place that actually goes through weather changes through out the different seasons. Fall/Autumn in Germany is one of the prettiest times to be here. Hallo Germany!! (Week of Oct 23rd-Nov 2nd)

This week was the best week ever while being here in germany! First, I have to mention our basketball game. This game was our best game yet only I wish we would have won! We lost in overtime by 3 points. Our fans were great and very supportive which made it easier to play and I love playing for them. Our next home game is Nov 19th and hope that you would join us in striving for our first home win! After the game, one of our biggest fans Simone and her friends took us to a bar to have a beer and play darts. Darts is starting to become one of my favorite games here in germany however is not common in the U.S.A. I was also introduced to a great mixed beer called "Goassnmas" which was very tasty and is my favorite beer here by far. I really had a great time and it took my mind off the game for a few hours which was well needed.

The next day we planned a trip to see some friends up in Nordligen. As I mentioned in a previous blog, our friends play for Donau-Ries Heli Girls team and are also from the same hometown we are from San Diego, CA. We took the train ( me and toya) to this city which took about 3 hours. This experience was very interesting because it was our first time ever taking a train here and we did pretty good for the first time. We were okay until we reached the city Munich and did not know there were 3 stops just within the city of Munich. We got off at the wrong stop in Munich which made us late for our next train to Donaworth. Our stop was supposed to the central station stop but we got off at the stop before the central station. We finally got on the right train heading to our destination and make it just in time for our friends game which started at 4pm. Unfortunately they lost but were very excited to see us because we were celebrating our 1st Halloween experience here in Germany with them. They had a Costume party with their team and us and will be a night we will never forget. We only stayed one night and had to come back for practice the next day.

Later on in the week, we went with our team manager (Nadine) to a city called Garmisch.
We were very excited because this city has a military base where there is an American grocery store. We bought tons of snacks, drinks, and other food items that we can relate too. It was great to see some things in the store that we can get back in the USA that is not provided here in Bad Aibling. These experiences will be most memorable and Im sure there are many more to come! Well that's all for now!

Servus!!!

Just played in my first home game here in Bad Aibling and what an experience. We definitely have the best fans here in Germany. The crowd was amazing and I truly appreciate all the fans support. Although the outcome was not what my teammates and I wanted, I believe we gave the fans a great show and fought to the end. Once again it was great seeing the many Hotel St. Georg employees in the building. I hope to see the same turnout for our next home game. I'd like to give a special birthday shot out to Alexandra!!! Even though it was a couple of weeks ago wanted to tell you Happy Birthday!!! I also want to thank you for the other night for allowing me to hang out with you and your friends. I had an awesome time with you guys. I'm learning that darts is a very popular past time here in Germany and I'm starting to enjoy it as well. I may not be very good at it but it's really fun to play. I also enjoyed this new beer for me but a hometown favorite for the locals called Goassnmass. So tasty!!!!! Hallo!!!!!

This week of OCT 18th, our team had to games to prepare for that were very important for us. One reason why they were important was because they were two good teams and we had another chance to prove to our fans and to ourselves that we were just as good. One team was a division 1 team called Heli Donau-Ries which is a team from Nördlingen. This team has alot of experience and even better some of my friends from my hometown ( san diego, ca) play on this team. Amanda Rego, Amber Sprague, and Morgen Henderson play on this team and Ive know two of them since high school. It was so good to see them and to play against them again! The other team was in the semi-finals last year which was a team from Hiedelburg. Unfortunately we lost both games but we are getting better as a team everyday and soon our fans will see that we have great potential to become good team.

Our biggest fan Jennifer, who is the daughter of Simone (who works at this hotel St. Georg) is our biggest supporter and I am so happy that I can be a great influence in her life.

We just had our second game of the season tonight and unfortunately it didn't end the way I'd liked but the atmosphere and fan support was awesome. I wasn't able to play in this game because I've been sick with strep throat. I guess the German weather wanted to break me in with a bang! So Doctor's orders, I have to sit out for at least seven days. I want to thank all of the fans for coming it was especially nice to see some of St Georg staff members on hand in the stands. Hopefully next game we will have a different result because what better way to show our fans that we appreciate their support than with a win?!?!

A couple of weeks ago it was two of my teammates' birthday Ciara and Steffi, September 27th. We got together as a team and had pizza, cake, and candy. Even though it wasn't my birthday, I felt like it was Christmas for cakes since there were so many to chose from. In the US we usually just have one cake but here in Germany, there were like five different cakes to chose from. My teammates Karin and Lena baked a few of the cakes and they were very pleasing to my taste buds !!! It's always nice to be able to get together with your teammates for something other than basketball, brings you closer. So until next time my friends. Tschüs!!!

Birthday Party!!

9/27/11,
Today is my birthday and is my first time celebrating in a different country besides the U.S. I wanted this day to be memorable and indeed it was! My teammate "Sandra" and her mom "Jutta" picked up me and my roommate "La'toya" up from the hotel around 11am and took us to the city Rosenhiem. This city is a little different from Bad Aibling because its a little bigger which means that there are more people, more attractions and more shops. We toured the city looking at different shops and restaurants. There were also department stores that were similar to other department stores in the states. For lunch Jutta took me the "Little Italy" of Rosenheim were there were some Italian restaurants. She took me to a restaurant called "LOSTERIA" where the chef personally made me some chicken alfredo pasta which was requested by me! This pasta was delicious and is now one of my recommendations to others when I come back to Rosenheim. Since today was a week day, we still had practice later on at 8pm, so we headed back to the hotel to possibly rest up for practice. As soon as we get back to the hotel, the phone rings and its one of my teammates saying that she will pick us up in a few minutes to take us to our coaches house. At this point, I am confused because Im thinking that maybe we might have a team meeting. Well it turns out that my teammates planned a little party for me and my teammate "stephie" because it was also her birthday. We ate lots of cake (which gave me a stomach ache before practice) drank a little Secco and headed to practice. Today was great and am very thankful for the love that was shown to me on my birthday!! Today was great!!

Guten Morgen Germany!!!! Good night USA!!! Mein name ist LaToya Cunningham and I am from California. I have been blessed with the opportunity to pursue my professional basketball career for the Tus Bad Aibling Fireballs here in Germany. My first month here has been very interesting to say the least. Everyone here in regards to my teammates, team managers/staff, team moms and dads, and the St Georg Hotel staff have been very welcoming. I really appreciate everyone's efforts in trying to make this transition as smooth as possible. It has been a bit of a culture shock for me, but I am doing my best and keeping an open mind. The language barrier has been the toughest to deal with because being able to communicate is so important. Although, it is getting easier day by day siince I've started taking German lessons as well as just hearing certain words everyday on a consistent basis.

So far I've been able to see some of the beautiful sites that Germany has to offer, enjoyed some awesome home cooked meals from different parents on the team, sampled some of the many different types of bread you guys have too offer, and even drank some of your famous Bavarian beer which is quite tasty. Keep in mind I don't even like beer so I dont usually drink it...oh and I can't forget about your ice cream, hmmm defintely one of my new favorites!!! I am really looking forward to the things to come on this new journey that I am embarking on. I am really excited about the season as well as learning/ experiencing the Deutsch culture. My name is Ciara Iglehart and I play for the TUS Bad Aibling Fireballs. I am so excited about this wonderful opportunity and to have a chance of playing professional basketball here in Germany. I have received nothing but love in this hotel while staying here and is learning to adapt to some things that are not considered normal for me. While being here, a typical day for me is to wake up to a German style breakfast ( which I'm still adapting too), receive German lessons ( so that I may learn to communicate with others here), take a afternoon nap, either head to the fitness room or swimming pool in the Hotel St. Georg (depending on my mood for the day:)) and then most importantly, get ready for our team practice which is usually held at night. Our team is in the 2nd division this year and hope to win a championship in the near future and have a successful season. We hope to see you all there, your support is truly appreciated!!!!

Als neuer als Hauptsponsor der TBA Fireballs unterstützen wir die Damen-Mannschaft nach ihrem Aufstieg in die 2. Bundesliga auf ihrem Weg in die 1. Bundesliga. In diesem Rahmen sind die zwei neuen US-Spielerinnen Ciara Iglehart und LaToya Cunningham, in unserem Haus zu Gast. Natürlich stehen wir auch dem kompletten Team unterstützend zur Seite.

Die beiden US- Basketballspielerinnen sind auf dem Blog und Facebook des Hotel St. Georg aktiv. Sie berichten hier, wie sie in Bad Aibling leben, trainieren und wie es ihnen dabei geht. Sie freuen sich auf alle Fans, die sie dabei begleiten, unterstützen und diese regelmäßig lesen.
